Family policies
What families ask us before a child starts.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A child with a fever, vomiting or a contagious illness stays home and returns after being well for a full day. If a child becomes ill at school, we call you right away and ask you to come promptly. A teacher stays with the child until you arrive.
Drop-off and pickup
We release a child only to the adults on the pickup list you give us, and we ask for ID at the door until we know you. Tell us ahead of time when someone new is coming.
Late pickup
Pickup is at 12:30 pm on morning schedules and 2:30 pm on the long day. If you are running late, call or text the school so a teacher can stay with your child. We talk with families about repeated late pickups, and the enrollment agreement says what follows.
Meals, snacks and allergies
The school prepares a morning snack of soup, bread or fruit with the children. Families on the long day send lunch and a water bottle. Tell us about allergies at the tour; we ask privately once you enroll. We ask families not to send nuts.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for the usual holidays and a winter break, and we share the year's closures at the start of the school year. On very cold or icy mornings outdoor time is shorter, and if the roads close the school, we email and text families early in the morning.
Screens and phones
There are no screens in the room. We ask families to keep phones away at drop-off and pickup too, so the doorway stays quiet for the children.
What to wear and bring
Send layers your child can manage alone and that can get wet or dirty: boots, snow pants, a hat and mittens in winter and a spare set of clothes in a labeled bag. Indoor shoes stay at school.
Questions about a policy?
Ask us on a tour, or write to us, and we will explain how it works in the room.
